Essential requirements for this position
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree from a fully accredited program or equivalent Information Technology degree combined with library systems and cataloguing knowledge and experience.
- 3 years of experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in an inventory or library cataloguing setting.
- Expertise in current and emerging cataloguing issues and technologies.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems and network architecture.
- Professional level knowledge of catalogue creation and maintenance along with cataloguing and classification principles, national standards and practices
- Demonstrated ability to work with others to conceive and plan projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of responsibilities, and apply new processes and technologies to cataloguing operations
- Working knowledge of AUSLANG or NATO cataloguing classification methods.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and handle demanding situations.
- Ability to meet deadlines as well as problem solve is essential.
- Ability to accurately complete arithmetic computations to perform duties of the job.
- Will demonstrate advanced analytical skills with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are important in order to liaise with different areas of the business.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other Shipyard personnel and management at all levels.
- Advanced MS Access as well as MS Excel skills will be highly regarded.
- Most importantly an enthusiastic approach with the eagerness to learn and develop will be an important attribute.
- Understands and demonstrates 6 core behavioural expectations; communicative, motivated, responsible, dependable, inquisitive and accountability.
- The inventory stock item cataloguer conducts research to determine what stock group or class to assign items to or to change items from an old identifier to a new one.
- The inventory stock item cataloguer ensures the integrity of the data by checking for proper item identification and other information.
- Working with maintenance and production departments, cataloguers are responsible for inputting details about new materials into the company’s electronic stock item database.
- Cataloguers must follow accepted rules for classifying and listing information about stores inventory materials.
- Follow the same guidelines of fellow cataloguers to ensure, standardization and a consistent result.
- While adhering to cataloguing rules and styles, cataloguers must also be creative when needed, able to adjust the rules when a new type of material or cataloguing situation presents itself. Sometimes they consult with colleagues in developing the best creative solution.
- Ability to deal with large backlogs of materials needing processing, making it important to communicate with people in other parts of the company to find out what materials are the highest priority and need cataloguing first.
- The inventory stock item cataloguer works with management to create the procedures for cataloguing stock items.
- Establish and maintains cataloguing files and activities.
- Prepare catalogue status reports for the Supply Chain Manager and other staff.
- Train local staff in all aspects of cataloguing systems and methodology.
- Other duties may be required and assigned by the Stores Superintendent or Supply Chain Manager.
